Toronto-based Isobord Enterprises Inc. has announced the construction of a new $142 million plant in Elie, Manitoba, to manufacture industrial grade, strawbased engineered composite panels The plant will reportedly be the largest operation in the world to transform wheat straw-often considered a farm waste material-into a type of particle board that is said to be both strong and moisture-resistant. More than 144 million ft2 of board will be produced annually at the Elie facility.
