Not many businesses can say they've been selling to three generation of customers. Monaco Ford of Glastonbury can.
"We see customers whose grandparents bought cars from my grandfather," Dave Monaco said. He's president of Monaco Ford at 767 New London Turnpike and he's running a business that's been in the family for 75 years.
"My grandfather, Peter, began selling cars and auto products in 1922," Dave Monaco said. Over the years he sold a variety of makes "Chevys, Oaklands, Packards, Willys Jeeps and in 1957 received a Ford Franchise." The family has been selling Fords exclusively since.
It's a family business. Peter Monaco turned over the operation to his five sons--Sonny, Albert, John, Charles and William--and though William left for other endeavors, the four brothers ran the dealership together.
