BOULDER - Valleylab, a 40-year-old Boulder medical devices company, changed its name to Covidien as part of Tyco International's split into three separate publicly traded companies.
Valleylab will be known as EnergyBased Devices, a global business unit of Pembroke, Bermuda-based Covidien Ltd. (NYSE: COV). Covidien is the health-care products company that used to be the Tyco Healthcare division of Tyco International.
Nellcor Puritan Bennett, also in Boulder and formerly a part of Tyco Healthcare, was also renamed Covidien, and its business unit is now called Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions. The company relocated from Pleasanton, Calif, earlier this year.
Valleylab, Nellcor and Puritan Bennet will remain brand names marketed by Covidien.
