Six months after offering to submit language specifications for dBase for Windows to an Xbase standards committee, Borland International Inc. decided not to submit anything unless Microsoft Corp. and Computer Associates Inc. agree not to sue Borland for using any present or future Xbase language syntax or semantics.
Because Microsoft's FoxPro and other companies' Xbase languages are derived from dBase, it is unclear how Borland's lack of participation will affect the standard, which is aimed at greater application portability among dBase, FoxPro, Clipper, and other Xbase languages.
