Several bidders are assembling the equity necessary to make bids for Stansted if BAA eventually sells the airport. Ryanair, the low-cost airline which accounts for about three-quarters of all traffic at the airport, has said that is willing to take a 25% equity stake in one of the bidding consortiums. Incheon International Airport is also rumoured to be bidding, while Manchester Airports Group is also likely to bid, and is selling equity stakes to fund an acquisition.
The likelihood of a sale has increased after the Court of Appeal upheld a Competition ruling from 2009 that said that BAA had to sell Stansted. The Commission believes that the Stansted sale, together with the closed sales of Gatwick and...
