Salt Lake-based online barter system BarterFarm.com announced several college
level site partners last week, as well as the closing of its first round of private
placement financing and the opening of a second round that is expected to raise as
much as $3 million.
BarterFarm.com claims to be the first globally interconnected network of local barter/auction communities. It licenses its backend technology to what it calls "barter farmers," whose job it is to market to their geographic or affinity-based communities.
Last week Utah Valley State College became a Barter Farmer and will use its site to promote the activities of its various athletic teams, said Joshua Higginbotham, CEO and cofounder of BarterFarm.com. Dubbed Wolverinetrader.net., the site will go live Aug. 18.
