AIMING TO EXPAND its presence in the eastern United States, AT&T announced last week that it will merge with Vanguard Cellular Systems, an independent cellular telephone system operator based in Greensboro, N.C.
The transaction is valued at approximately $1.5 billion.
"With Vanguard Cellular, AT&T can significantly increase its footprint in the eastern United States,' said Dan Hesse, president of AT&T Wireless Services.
