The reorganization of Disney's Los Angeles magazine into the Fairchild Publications pantheon and the February 19 ascension of Women's Wear Daily/W group publisher Stephanie George to executive vp in charge of sales for LA and her Fairchild domain claimed its first casualty last Thursday (February 20) when publisher (since 1994) Joan McCraw, in what we understand was an "unpleasant" meeting, told staffers she'd be leaving on April Fools Day "to pursue other opportunities." minsiders told us that McCraw (ex-National Geographic/USA Weekend) opted out due to changes in top management and the fact that Disney's consumer-magazine culture is very different from that of fashion trade-oriented Fairchild, which loses chairman/editorial director John Fairchild to retirement in two weeks. In a statement, McCraw said that this changing context precipitated her exit. Separately, we are told, Fairchild executives indicated LA should expect more changes soon.
