Traditionally, access control tracks who goes where, when. Asset tracking, on the other hand, controls what goes where, when.
Now, new developments from several manufacturers will marry the two and change the equation to: Who goes where, when, with what? The combination of these two security areas is aimed particularly at protecting corporate assets such as computers, fax machines and phones.
HID, IBM, Atmel Partnership
HID, Tustin, Calif., has partnered with computer manufacturer IBM and integrated circuit designer Atmel to develop a new technology aimed at preventing unauthorized movement of PCs from the corporate environment.
