Advanced Micro Devices Inc. announced last week that it will use its new HyperTransport I/O interface in chipsets that will support its 64-bit Hammer family of high-end microprocessors.
Called the AMD 8000, the chipset will be available for sampling in the fourth quarter. AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif., will follow its usual practice of introducing the chipset itself in an effort to spur early adoption.
