Southern Africa's iron and steel industry will ring in major changes in 2006 as new mines get the green light in South Africa and foreign investors turn to the iron ore potential of previously wartorn countries such as Liberia and Angola.
Iron ore capacity expansions in South Africa are being led by Anglo American's majority-owned Kumba Resources and Assmang, both of which are finally able to develop deposits in Northern Cape province after sealing export deals with the country's state rail and port operators.
