ABSTRACT : Globalisation and technological progression fosters orgnisations to be Multicultural and Diversified. Organisations witness multiplicity of Workforce Diversity. Age, Gender, Educational Background, Mother Tongue, Languages known to speak& Write, Food consumed, Culture, Religion, celebrations, Values, Beliefs ... ... are some of the diversity that exists. In this scenario, the present study is made an attempt to measure the workforce diversity and its impact on employee performance. The study used both primary and secondary data to understand the importance of diversified workplace. Primary Data for the study is collected from 100 employees from Chennai city, working in IT & ITES Sector. 15 Workplace Diversity Variables are considered in the study. Primary data is analysed using SPSS. The study shows association that exists between Diversity Variables and Workplace Performance. The research concludes that diversity is inevitable; diversity fosters creativity and fosters enthusiasm in the workplace.

Globalization and technological progression fosters more interaction among people from diverse cultures, beliefs, values, mindset and backgrounds. The present day job environment is in such a way that employees no longer live and work in isolation. They are now part of a worldwide economy with competition coming from nearly every continent. Workplace diversity enables organizations to be more creative and open to change. Therefore maximizing and capitalizing on workplace diversity has become an important issue for management today. Diversity in the workplace involves bringing together people with different backgrounds, religions and age groups into a cohesive and productive unit. Diversity refers to the variety or multiplicity of demographic features that characterize a company's workforce, particularly in terms of race, sex, culture, national origin, handicap, age and religion. It also refers to the differences among people in age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and capabilities/disabilities. Improved communication technology and smart phones era is enabling the marketplace even a more global concept. Therefore the corporate workplace of the present day is a diverse workplace. In order to engage, appreciate, retain and to get the best of workforce, organisations have to understand the importance of diverse workplace and its impact on their performance.
