Istart this review with a disclaimer: Being an optimist and big picture person, when I love a book or a movie it's a challenge for me to do an objective assessment. I prefer to focus on the overall effect that the story had on me. Knowing this is my assignment, however, I take it seriously. This review will critique a book that swept me up in the storytelling, delivered important truths, and continues to work its way into my consciousness and conversation long after I have moved on to the next book.
The book's message is that hospitals will never have a true culture of safety until they adopt standardization and the checks and balances of other high hazard fields, such as commercial aviation and nuclear power.
