Abstract

[...]I shall detail what ethnocentrism is, what are its features and types, and subsequently I shall point out the manner in which Western ethnocentrism is manifested in relation to the Muslim East (Islam), to what extent ethnocentrism is indistinguishable from cultural illusion, as well as possible means of acting against this universal phenomenon. [...]they are frequently cited as the cause of serious problems in the world; an examination of them may lead to an increase in the ability to cope with these problems. According to Huntington, the essence of Western civilization is based on the following factors: the Classical legacy (Greek philosophy and rationalism, Roman law etc.), Catholicism and Protestantism, European languages, separation of spiritual and temporal authority, rule of law, social pluralism, representative bodies and individualism.
