Once again, Marion Zimmer Bradley has crafted a fine adventure tale peopled with heroic, capable women. While the world of Zadieyek of Gyre holds little for the weak of stomach, mind, or heart, it is not a senselessly brutal tale.
A young woman, weakened from a long desert captivity and sickened by an unknown accident, is sold into slavery as a whore to gladiators. Rather than accept her fate, she attacks a warrior and beats him with a sword. Seeing her talent the arms master trains her as a gladiator.
