Abstract

In Cuba, there is great experience in the use of Natural and Traditional Medicine and the most used technique in Stomatology is Phytotherapy; however, it is not known if stomatologists use this treatment modality. The study characterized the use of Phytotherapy by the stomatologists of a clinic in the municipality of Playa, Havana. Stomatological clinical histories of 200 patients treated with Phytotherapy were analyzed. It was obtained that the most treated conditions with Phytotherapy: chronic gingivitis (35.0%) and odontalgia (28.0%), Integral General Stomatology (EGI), the specialty that most applied it, was used mostly as a fluid extract (30.0%) and tincture (26.0%) and associated with conventional treatment. Calendula (30.0%) and guava (22.5%) were the most commonly used medicinal plants.
