Once again Dr. Marcia Henry hits a home run out of the park with the revision of best seller, Unlocking Literacy. The many enthusiastic endorsements for this masterful, authoritative, and comprehensive new volume read like a Who's Who of The International Dyslexia Association, beginning with the Foreword by Dr. Maryanne Wolf who says, "With this book, Dr. Henry provides an elegant, cogently written summary of what educators need to know about how reading is learned and how it is best taught."
For years, Unlocking Literacy has been required reading for many college and university courses in reading instruction, and full disclosure, since 2003 this reviewer has used (and loved) the first Unlocking Literacy as a core text when teaching college courses. Additionally, many teacher trainers and reading coaches have recommended Unlocking Literacy to teachers who want to begin professional book clubs to study research and best practices in literacy instruction; indeed, Unlocking Literacy, 2nd Edition's eight chapters lend themselves nicely to focused study during the school year.
