PURPOSE AND NATURE OF TEST
The Occupational Aptitude Survey and Interest Schedule-Third Edition (OASIS-3) was designed to assist students in eighth grade through postsecondary school settings in "self-exploration, vocational exploration, and career development" (p. 1) by providing them with information regarding their relative aptitudes and vocational interests in several areas related to the world of work. The OASIS-3 consists of two separate joint-normed instruments, the OASIS-3 Aptitude Survey (AS) and the OASIS-3 Interest Schedule (IS). Each test typically takes from 30 to 45 minutes to administer. Scores from the OASIS-3 are keyed to the work activities and educational needs of specific occupations represented in the U.S. Department of Labor's (1991) Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and the Guide for Occupational Exploration (GOE; Farr, Ludden, & Shatkin, 2001). Both instruments of the OASIS-3 can be administered individually or in groups.
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
The OASIS-3:AS was developed as a shorter multiaptitude test to measure the predominant factors encompassed by the 12 subtests of the U.S. Department of Labor's (1970) General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB). The OASIS-3:AS consists of five subtests, which yield six broad aptitude factor scores that are related to the skills and abilities required in the more than 12,000 jobs listed in the DOT. The OASIS-3:IS is a 240-item vocational inventory, designed to be used in conjunction with the AS, that measures student preferences for job activities from the 12 occupational groups listed in the GOE.
