Tchoukball is a genuinely unique game, which is fun for beginners and professionals alike. It is a perfect game for gym classes or intramurals because it demands teamwork. There are multiple facets of the game, including: good observation, constant attention, anticipation, intelligence, and athletic ability.
Dr. Hermann Brandt invented Tchoukball in 1968. Brandt believed "the objective of human physical activities is not to make champions, but to make a contribution to building a harmonious society". Fair play and respect for the opposition are fundamental parts of the game. Banning all physical contact and interceptions enables players of all different sizes, genders, and abilities to play together, creating a comfortable environment regardless of skill differences.
While invented decades earlier, Tchoukball made its real breakthrough into Canada in the year 2000 and has since made huge gains; it is now being played in many primary schools and high schools, especially throughout Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. It is an inexpensive game, requiring no cosdy equipment. The game can be played by men or women or can be co-ed. Further, adaptations can be made to facilitate play on all surfaces (indoor or outdoor). It really is an ideal game for intramural play. See some of the rules of the game oudined below and consider introducing this exciting game into your intramural program.
