The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a "dynamic" online reference tool. Conceived as an encyclopedia that could be frequently revised and updated, the Stanford site, along with other comparable online resources such as the smaller Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (http://www.utm.edu/ research/iep/), represents a pioneering effort on the part of an educational institution to develop a free, Web-based reference work for scholars in the field. Although this work is still in its infancy and will not replace the standard print sources such as the Encyclopedia of Philosophy or the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy, it will nevertheless be a good, freely accessible...
