This article offers a review of the monograph Sprachen und ihre Sprecher in Litauen. Eine soziolinguistische Untersuchung zum sozialen Status des Litauischen, Polnischen und Russischen (Languages and their speakers in Lithuania: A sociolinguistic study on the social status of Lithuanian, Polish and Russian) by Anastasija Kostiučenko. Her volume presents a study on attitudes to Lithuanian, Polish and Russian in Lithuania, applying the matched guise technique developed by Canadian psychologist Wallace E. Lambert in the 1960s. The monograph is an important voice in the discussion on the methods of sociolinguistic study. This review includes some polemical observations.
