Four patients experienced facial swelling following sodium hypochlorite exposure during endodontic treatment.
A 59-year-old woman presented with left submandibular swelling and a necrotic ulcer following an accidental sodium hypochlorite extrusion during endodontic treatment. Additionally, she experienced numbness of her left lower lip and chin, and weakness of the left lower lip. She had reported severe pain during irrigation of the root canal with 1mL of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. Five days later, her submandibular swelling had increased.
