The nineteenth-century British diplomat, Ernest Satow, is best known for his work in Japan, where he served as British Minister from 1895 to 1900, and China. His service in Siam (Thailand) is not as well known. The Satow Siam Papers is meant to fill this interval in his East Asia career and to contribute to the documentary sources available for the study of late-nineteenth-century Thai history.
