I have recently been asked by several of my customers to increase my library's stock on qualitative research methods. As I have never been quite clear as to what these are, I welcomed the opportunity to read through portions of this massive book. I also elicited the assistance of Dr Joanna Murray, the tutor responsible for the qualitative module on the Institute of Psychiatry's MSc course in psychiatric research, and received the unsolicited but initially enthusiastic assistance of Charlie Sharp, the institute's computer manager. He, like me, has been asked to provide more software to support qualitative research, so he took the book away hoping that a "handbook" would actually give him an idea of what would be best to buy.
