REGISTRO DE LA PRESENCIA DE HIFOMICETOS ACUÁTICOS EN RÍOS DE LA CORDILLERA DE LA COSTA, VENEZUELA

RESUMEN

Los hifomicetos acuáticos son hongos imperfectos microscópicos y en el ecosistema acuático son los responsables de utilizar, degradar y modificar el material vegetal que cae al agua, permitiendo así que el mismo sea utilizado por otros organismos presentes. Si bien este grupo de hongos tiene una amplia distribución geográfica, son pocos los estudios realizados en Venezuela sobre ellos; por lo tanto, se consideró realizar el registro mensual de las especies de hifomicetos presentes en tres ríos de la Cordillera de La Costa (Río Cabriales, Río Cúpira y Quebrada Tócome). Los resultados indican que la flora de hifomicetos acuáticos es variada en cada río y la misma fluctuó en número de especies durante el estudio; sin embargo, no se observó una tendencia estacional durante el año.

SUMMARY

Aquatic hyphomycetes are microscopic imperfect fungi and are the principal decomposers of the submerged organic matter in rivers. Consequently, they are involved in the cycling of nutrients and energy provision at the first trophic level of the lotic system. Although this group of fungi have an ample geographic distribution, few studies have been performed in Venezuela. Therefore, a monthly registry of the hyphomycetes species in three rivers of the Mountain Coast (Cabriales River, Cúpira River and Quebrada Tócome) was carried out. The results indicate that the flora of aquatic hyphomycetes is varied in each river and the same fluctuated in number of species during the study, nevertheless, a seasonal tendency was not observed during the year.
