Abstract

The "natural resource curse" is a term coined by Auty (1993) and reinforced by the results of Sachs and Warner (1995, 1999) to explain why countries with greater relative wealth of natural resources tend to grow at rates lower that countries with fewer natural resources. This paper studies empirically the existence of a "resource curse" in the Colombian economy, for this purpose, applied time series analysis, finding evidence to affirm the paradox, explained by the export of coffee, petroleum and area of land for agriculture for the period 1970 - 2010.
