Abstract Phyllanthi Urinariae Herba is dry grass of Phyllanthus urinaria, and lias the effects of calming liver, clearing heat, diuresis and detoxification in traditional Chinese medicine. Studies have shown that the effects of anti-hepatitis В virus, hepatoprotective. anti-tumor, antipathogenic microorganism, anti-oxidation, and anti-thrombosis were good and worthy of further research and development. The research progress on the pharmacological effects of P. urinaria was reviewed in order to provide a reference for the rational development of this product.
Key words Phyllanthus urinaria. Pharmacological action. Liver protection. Anti-tumor
1 Introduction
Phyllanthi Urinariae Herba is dry grass of Phyllanthus urinaria , and has the effects of calming liver, clearing heat, diuresis and detoxification in traditional Chinese medicine, which is used to treat enteritis, dysentery, urinary tract infection, innominate swelling and pain (1-2) There are more than 600 species of P. urinaria in the world, in which 33 species and 4 variants in China. P. urinaria is distributed in the Yangtze River basin and southern provinces, and grows in grassland wetland environment'·1. Since Thyagarajan firstly reported that P. amarus was used to treat HBsAg carrier in 1988 and obtained better curative effect, its extensive and lasting development and research by scholars at home and abroad were conducted14'. Results showed that P. urinaria had better pharmacological effects of anti-hepatitis В virus ( HBV) , hepatoprotective, anti-tumor, anti-pathogenic microorganism, anti-oxidation, and anti-thrombosis. Here, research progress on pharmacological effects of P. urinaria was reviewed, which aimed to provide the basis for the development of new drug.
2 Anti-hepatitis В virus
Via a large number of experimental studies, it is found that P. urinaria has the effect of anli-HBV in vivo and in vitro, could inhibit HBeAg and HBV-DNA, and has the effect of eliminating HBsAg. He Chonglang et al. 1,1 reported that 0.01 g/ml. of methanol and ethanol extracts of P. urinaria from Shaanxi all had stronger effects of killing HBV antigen. Wang Xinhua et al, 161 used P. urinaria compound whose main components were Phyllanthi Urinariae Herba and Notoginseng Radix Et Rhizoma) to conduct in vivo efficacy test of two kinds of DllBVs, and result showed that 10 and 5 g/kg of P. urinaria compounds had certain inhibition effect on the reproduction of virus replication.
