Abstract

Pasteurellosis is a zoonotic infection causing a spectrum of disease in human beings.2 P multocida is a common oropharyngeal commensal in animals and birds, but it also causes epizootic infection: snuffles in rabbits, avian cholera in waterfowl, pneumonia in sheep, and haemorrhagic septicaemia in cattle.P multocida has been isolated from patients without a history' of an animal bite.Spread of the organism from the upper respiratory tract to adjacent structures has led to meningitis, otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, epiglottitis, bronchiectasis, or pneumonia.3 Many of these patients had chronic underlying pulmonary disease, but invasive pasteurellosis may occasionally occur in the healthy.
