Abstract

The article Parties and party membership in Europe and Romania is focusing on the relationship of the parties with their own members, relating the situation in Romania to the European trends. In Romania, after the renegaded legacy of the mass (communist) party it has been adopted the pattern of the staff party, preferring instead of a large number of members, a mass of "sympathizers" easy to mobilize but with limited claims to be involved in the life of the party. The same trends can be observed in other European countries and especially from Eastern Europe (the case of Poland). However, the possibility to maintain a good connection with the society exists. The case of the parties in the Netherlands demonstrate this. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
