When reviewing a work of fiction, or, say, a history book, it is reasonable to expect a reviewer to have read steadily through the bulk of the text without skipping anything. When reviewing a reference book however, it is more reasonable to expect the reviewer to have sampled a few random sections, matching them up against entries in other reference works or online information sources, and, most especially, matching them up against current library enquiries and recollected requests for information. I regret to confess that I have not gone through this procedure with this particular book. All I have done is carry it backwards and forwards on the train with me each day, browsing my way happily through it.
