A 16-year-old boy developed metabolic acidosis, hypoglycaemia and severe muscle pain after ingesting an overdose of niacin.
The boy, who had a history of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) use, ingested four niacin 500mg tablets every 4 hours for 2 days in an attempt to mask his THC use in an upcoming urine drug screen.
