Abstract

Current progress in understanding the latency of varicella-zoster virus is highlighted, and the neurologic complications of viral reactivation are reviewed, focusing on previously underemphasized patterns of zoster, preherpetic and postherpetic neuralgia, myelitis, large-vessel granulomatous arteritis and small-vessel encephalitis.
