Abstract
Insertion of laryngeal tube suction–II (LTS-II; VBM Medizintechnik GmbH, Sulz a.N., Germany) may be difficult using a standard insertion technique as described by the manufacturer because of insufficient retropharyngeal space which is filled with tongue and prevents movement of LTS-II down into the esophagus. Schalk and colleagues [2] in their landmark article have described successful use of chin lift maneuver (Esmarch grip) performed simultaneously to lift the base of the tongue off the pharyngeal wall, opening the patient’s mouth. [...]we again applied jaw lift in a modified way in which instead of inserting the thumb of nondominant hand to pull the mandible upwards and forwards, we inserted the thumb between the tongue and the floor of the mouth to lift the lower jaw and the tongue together with simultaneous displacement of the tongue to the left side of the oral cavity.
