Abstract

Within M&As, the present study was based on the social identity approach (SIA) and stress theory implications to propose a comprehensive model of the effects of intergroup- (i.e., status of pre-merger organizations, merger integration pattern) and individual-level parameters (work stress) on workers' physical and psychological health post-combination. Data were collected from 140 Greek employees at two merged organizations. Path analysis indicated that high status of pre-merger organizations was related to reduced stress and better physical and psychological health. Absorb as opposed to transformation pattern was linked to increased stress and worse physical and psychological health post-merger, while post-merger stress mediated the relationship between intergroup-level variables and physical and psychological health. Current findings are discussed under theoretical developments and practical implications for organizational change. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
