Abstract

After a brief analysis of the main aspects of the cosmopolitanism in the Enlightenment, the article considers the cosmopolitan dimension of the peace projects that were written in that century. The works of Penn, Saint-Pierre, Rousseau, Gargas, Brun, Bentham, Cloots and Kant are the focus of attention. Perhaps those peace projects are the best place to study the cosmopolitanism of that century, because they shaped their main elements, especially a need for international institutions to achieve a stable peace. They show, moreover, that peace became a central subject on the philosophical agenda in that period.
