Abstract

The article discusses the concepts of education and health in order to arrive to a closer approach ofthe current meaning of health education. A real and provisional definition is proposed as «a continuing educational process that begins in the early years of childhood, and is geared towards self-knowledge in all its dimensions, as well as knowledge of the surrounding environment in its ecological and social dimensions in order to have a healthy life and to participate in group health». Here, we also discus a series of health problems that currently affect today's world, most of which have come about due to societal changes and highly accelerated technological development. These problems go beyond traditional medical boundaries as they are of a psychosocial, not biological nature, and therefore require educational treatment for their prevention. Lastly, it identifies the main educational spaces for Health Education activities, with special emphasis on the importance of schools. This is the most crucial period, since deeply rooted attitudes are acquired during childhood. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
