Introduction
The Internet has made a tremendous impact and effect on the world. It is widely used for delivering services and content. It has also made a significant impact on the library and information services (LIS). “We are seeing a revitalization of libraries as social spaces where information and creativity interact (O'Connor and Sidorko, 2010, p. 10).” Nevertheless, in this information age, it is necessary to continually assess the requirements of knowledge and skills of library staff in order to maintain relevance and competitive edge. There are many ways to accomplish this. Job lists or postings are an essential data source for determining the knowledge, skills and competencies required for LIS professionals (Binici, 2021; Bjorklund and Audunson, 2021). Job lists provide a variety of professional, generic and essential aptitudes and personal attributes for LIS professionals (Pontika, 2019; Robinson, 2021; Skene, 2018; Turner, 2020).
Employers want graduates who are already well-skilled in computer technologies and tools so that they can escape the cost of training at work (Kumari and Mishra, 2020). Technological knowledge significantly affects the employability of LIS graduates who seek jobs in the market. Many employability studies have confirmed that IT skill is amongst the most sought-after skills for graduates looking to work in the LIS field (Bishop et al., 2015; Yang, 2016).
Employability skills can be defined as “the core proficiencies that represent essential functional and enabling knowledge skills and abilities required to succeed at all levels of employment (Rosenberg et al., 2012).” Employability skills are the set of skills that an employer wants from an employee. Employability is one of the core elements of debate in the LIS education, and the debate is on what employability skills employers want from LIS graduates or employees (Collet et al., 2015; Mawson and Haworth, 2018; Hossain and Sormunen, 2019). The current state of the profession determines the employability of its workers. The LIS profession has undergone a sea change over the last few decades due to unbelievable technological development, and the transformation is still in progress as the technology is flourishing (Tadasad, 2015).
