Launched in February of 2009, JURN uses the Google custom search engine to make available freely accessible selected/hand-picked, internet-based English language e-journals in the arts and humanities. JURN has its base in the UK, and the website homepage informs users that the coverage is mostly of English journals. Currently JURN exists in beta version and indexes over 850 hand-picked e-journals while its Google custom search allows users to examine (as of April 2009) up to 2,235 scholarly e-journals in the arts and humanities. JURN searches free-open access journals from the Intute: Arts and Humanities and the Intute: Social Sciences , as well as e-journal URLs from the Directory of Open Access Journals . Example of the diverse titles include: Aether: Journal of Media Geography, Americana: The Journal of American Popular Culture, Bilingual Research Journal, British Journal of Photography, Nordic Journal of English Studies, Tympanum: A Journal of Comparative Literary Studies, and West Africa Review . JURN also contains links to what the creator considers the "highest-quality long-form weblogs and online magazines" and thirteen fine arts magazines from FreeArticles.com.
