Abstract

JIT II, conceived and implemented by Bose Corp. in 1987, is currently being reviewed and is in the initial phases of implementation in various US corporations, mainly because it is the next logical step in 2 of today's cutting-edge concepts, partnering and concurrent engineering. JIT II brings the vendor "partner" into the plant full-time and provides full free access to customer data, people and processes - with an "evergreen" contract and no bidding rituals. This is true partnering and the next logical phase for those intent on becoming true partners. Once this basic and rather substantial act of faith is accomplished - the placement inside of a vendor representative - the JIT II relationship becomes a catalyst for the improvement of various accepted business practices in purchasing, planning, engineering, importing and transportation.
