Interventional Radiology as a (Sub) Specialty: A Word of Caution

The statement paper of the CIRSE leadership about interventional radiology (IR) as a subspecialty and its position within the radiological family and the medical community (1) has stimulated quite a lively debate about IR as a subspecialty, even some postulating that IR should become a specialty of its own.
As a radiologist who has been working in a general radiological department throughout my professional career, and who has dedicated a signicant amount of time to IR, I feel that it is time to express some concerns about the ongoing debate.
