There is always a need for up-to-date editions to help students to read Homer in Greek, and this edition of Iliad I will not fail them. The text used is that of the Oxford Classical Text, but Pulleyn (hereafter: P.) also refers to van Thiel's text of the Iliad and to M. L. West's. His own facing translation is provided to help beginners to construe the Greek. He also provides a useful vocabulary list derived from that in J. T. White, The First Book of the Iliad (Longman's, 1878). The select bibliography refers students to works used frequently in preparation of the edition: the introduction and commentary refer to many others. Linguistic issues are well represented throughout. A very brief general index is provided and an index of Greek words. This last misses out a great many of their uses in the commentary. Aiδως...
