We had a set of Grzimek in our library, not in a glorious row, but individually classified. A few remain on the shelves. They are dumpy, thick volumes, published in the 1960s, and it is good to be able to welcome this new version of an old friend. The first edition was a translation, but the new edition is entirely rewritten and looks very different: it has stout hard cover binding that will wear very well. Alkaline paper is used and the books are now quarto sized. The reading list, glossary and index are easily found as the pages are stepmarked on the fore-edge.
