Francois Devienne: Six Concertant Duos, Op. 5

Devienne was a French flute player, bassoonist, and composer from the classical era. He was a professor of flute at the Paris Conservatoire, and, as a composer, his works are best known by flute players, although he also wrote operas and works for other instruments, including chamber music and 17 concertos.
The six duos for flute and viola included in this CD were first published in 1780. They are good examples of classical compositional style and-perhaps unusual for the time-they use both voices as equal partners rather than relying on a soloist with accompaniment. Each of the duos is in two...
