Abstract

The Andean people have developed their own forms of resistance and rejection against efforts to dominate, oppress and suppress their customs and liberties. This essay will analyse these forms of resistance through the centuries, starting with the Taqui Onqoy religious movement and emergence of the Inkarri myth and ending with the armed revolutionary movements, Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru and Sendero Luminoso in the twentieth century. By understanding the essence of these forms of rebellion, this article identifies common elements between the different resistance movements, in which the indigenous population took part, despite each movement's specific characteristics.
