Dr O'Brien illustrates an unusual example of a Fluotec in his paper on the introduction of halothane in Oxford1. The advertising of the Fluotec from 19571977 in Anaesthesia was researched and is illustrated. This, together with the modifications for fitting on a Selectatec® back bar suggests that the vaporiser may date from the early 1970s at a time when the Fluotec Mark 2 had already been superseded by the Fluotec Mark 3.
My eye was caught by the somewhat unusual example (for British anaesthetists) of an early Fluotec halothane vaporiser illustrated by O'Brien1 in his paper on the introduction of halothane in Oxford. The Fluotec Mark 1(2) was not widely advertised in Anaesthesia but an advertisement appeared in two issues in 1957.
