This documentary, narrated by actress Cicely Tyson, tells the story of the Underground Railroad, which helped runaway slaves reach safe haven in the northern United States and Canada. To accomplish this task, Flight to Freedom weaves together contemporary sketches, photographs, documents, maps, artifacts. film footage of historical sites, and interview segments with historians and other experts.
Flight to Freedom is divided into two parts. The first hour is largely an overview of slavery, the slave trade, and the antislavery movement from their colonial beginnings through the antebellum years....
