Family Interaction is a text designed for lower division university students who want to learn about family processes. It is one of few family texts that is specifically structured around family-oriented theoretical perspectives that were developed in the last half of the 20th century. It uses an integration of two perspectives: a developmental perspective that emphasizes family development and is also sensitive to individual life span development and a systems perspective that emphasizes multigenerational and structural aspects of family systems. This theoretical emphasis provides an intervention orientation rather than merely an analytical, descriptive, or observational orientation to the subject matter.
