Abstract

The adoption of a consistent altimetric network constitutes an important need within the modernization of the geodetic system in Brazilian and South American contexts. At present the Altimetric High Precision Network (RAAP) of Brazil an approximated correction is applied to the leveling increments, due to nonparallelism of equipotential surfaces in order to reduce this error; however, this condition does not guarantee a physical meaning for the heights. Searching for a univocal solution for the realization of altimetric systems, physics heights are adopted, based on the knowledge of the gravity potential (W), and on important conditions for defining a modern vertical system. This study aims at determining and evaluating the magnitude of the correction of dynamic height, Helmert orthometric height and normal height in a leveling line which belongs to the RAAP located in the northeastern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in a path that has 1.179,73 m of gap. The results obtained in the correction of the leveling increments observed for dynamic height, orthometric height and normal height are respectively -20,45; 11,79 and 4,19 cm, being the normal height system the most compatible to the current Brazilian altimetric network, as the corrections for this kind of altitude are closely related to the correction term applied to the height differences of RAAP, among the systems evaluated.
