The End of Empires: African Americans and India. By Gerald Home. (Philadelphia: Temple University Press, 2008. 266 pp. $54.50, ISBN 978-1-59213-899-9.)
The first reaction to this monograph might be, "Not another book title with the words 'empire' and 'African Americans and (fill in name of nation or continent or U.S. policy or foreign policy making institution).'" This is not to argue that the topic of African Americans and their role in American international relations has been exhausted, but after the appearance of so many fine studies in the past ten years or so by Carol Anderson, Penny Von Eschen, Thomas Borstelmann, Mary Dudziak, Brenda Gayle Plummer, Marc Gallichio, and a host of others it is fair to ask what more of significance can be added to the historiography?
