Elizabeth Raum has lucidly recounted once again the intriguing life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This brief work heavily relies on the earlier studies of Eberhard Bethge, who even at his advanced age assisted Raum in retelling the story that he knew so well. Raum's narrative biography of Bonhoeffer is flawed only by the absence of any serious consideration of Bonhoeffer's contributions to theology. Her bibliography, however, will help beginning students of church history enter into the German Protestant ecclesial and theological world during the first half of the twentieth century.
